IMAGING ACTIVITIES™ FOR WINDOWS WORKFLOW FOUNDATION (WF) AND SHAREPOINT |
| TAMPA, FL, FEBRUARY 28, 2008 – Pegasus® Imaging Corporation, the leading provider of digital imaging technology, today announced the release of Imaging Activities for Windows® Workflow Foundation (WF) and Microsoft® Office® SharePoint® Server (MOSS). Software developers can now easily add advanced image cleanup activities to WF applications or add them to SharePoint workflows. Pegasus Imaging draws upon 17 years of experience as an imaging technology provider to deliver Imaging Activities for Windows Workflow. An extensive array of ScanFix® Xpress™ cleanup operations, also delivered as ActiveX and .NET components, is now available as fully-integrated, WF activities for use within Visual Studio 2005 and Visual Studio 2008. ScanFix image cleanup activities include: deskew, despeckle, border cropping, inverse text correction, removal of dot shading, line removal, character smoothing, and others. Each activity includes parameters that can be fine-tuned, if necessary, to address any issues specific to particular kinds of images such as faxes, scanned documents, or microfiche. Most activities also return confidence values that can be used to conditionally apply image cleanup. The result is significantly-improved accuracy during subsequent OCR, ICR, and barcode recognition, as well as smaller file sizes and better-looking images. Two additional ImagXpress™ activities are included for opening and saving images, which allows conversion of images from one format to another. “One of Pegasus Imaging’s fundamental goals is to deliver the most powerful imaging technology in the world,” says Casey Muse, program manager at Pegasus Imaging. “Many useful activities ship with WF; however, most are general purpose and do not solve specific business problems. With this release, our customers will be able to use our powerful image processing and image conversion technology as WF activities for developers building WF and MOSS document imaging applications.” The Pegasus technology enables exciting new applications. For example, a workflow can be easily created for Sharepoint that is triggered when users add faxed documents to a Sharepoint document library. The workflow could apply ScanFix’s despeckle and deskew activities, convert the images into PDF format, and forward them to users. Or, a WF application could be built that takes groups of images from a large microfiche image collection, tests them for inverted display and negates them if needed, removes unsightly borders, positions the new images on the page, and saves them out as multi-page TIFF files. These can then be viewed anywhere using a browser and Pegasus Imaging’s Prizm® Viewer. More information on Pegasus Imaging’s imaging technology can be found here: www.pegasusimaging.com/scanfix.htm. The ScanFix Xpress Workflow Activities download, an overview paper, and a more in-depth white paper for software developers containing a sample project and source code, can all be found on the ScanFix Xpress product pages.
