JPEG 2000 PART 2 – 3D VOLUMETRIC ENCODING JUST RELEASED BY PEGASUS IMAGING |
TAMPA, FL, NOVEMBER 22, 2006 – Pegasus Imaging Corporation, the leading provider of medical image compression technologies, today released its JPEG 2000 Part 2 implementation for 3D volumetric encoding, within the PICTools™ MedX Software Development Kit (SDK). Pegasus Imaging’s JPEG 2000 Part 2 - 3D slices volumetric encoding supports 24-bit RGB and 8-16 bit grayscale medical images. Software developers may compress and decompress images using JPEG 2000 Part 2 - 3D volumetric encoding as used in the DICOM standard in the medical imaging industry. This implementation supports both Lossy and Lossless modes. It supports both JPEG 2000 raw codestream format and the JPEG 2000 JPX format. “Our JPEG 2000 customers will be able to more efficiently compress the huge amounts of volumetric medical image data now being created by MR and CT modalities,” says Will Clonts, medical business development manager at Pegasus Imaging. The PICTools MedX software development kit provides imaging technology designed to enhance medical imaging applications. PICTools MedX contains low-level C libraries providing the fastest compression and decompression engines available. PICTools MedX provides commercially supported software development libraries for lossy JPEG, lossless JPEG, JPEG 2000 (Part 2 3D volumetric encoding, Transcoder, Part 9 JPIP) and JPEG-LS. It offers both lossy and lossless DICOM-compliant formats, including 8-bit and 16-bit grayscale. This SDK is ideal for both still image and video.
