PEGASUS IMAGING CORPORATION RELEASES JPEG 2000 EVALUATION |
| TAMPA, FL, February 21, 2001 - Pegasus Imaging Corporation, a leader in Digital Image Compression Technology, today announced the introduction of its new Apollo test code for JPEG 2000 compression testing and evaluation. Pegasus is introducing Apollo as the first step toward offering the new JPEG 2000 image compression technology within Pegasus' vast array of software development toolkits and end-user applications. JPEG 2000 is a proposed ISO standard built around advanced wavelet transform methods that is the culmination of years of work and testing by many dedicated companies and scientists around the world, including Pegasus. Pegasus draws on its extensive multi-platform, performance optimization imaging expertise, both in its own past wavelet offering, as well as its work in creating the fastest baseline JPEG implementation available. "Pegasus is very excited about the upcoming acceptance of this new imaging standard by the ISO, and happy to participate as a technology leader by quickly providing this compression technology for commercial acceptance," said Jack Berlin, President of Pegasus. He adds, "Having wavelet compression available as a standard removes the proprietary mysticism surrounding this technology, making it available at a much lower cost for companies trying to provide real commercial imaging solutions. Pegasus is one of the only commercial standards-based imaging suppliers, so JPEG 2000 fits exactly into our business strategy. Pegasus is committed to providing the best-performing, multi-platform JPEG 2000 implementation in the world." Apollo is available for free download from the Pegasus website. Pegasus next plans to release a beta version of its JPEG 2000 software development kit for application developers to begin testing for future use. The beta evaluation form for the software development kit is also found on the Pegasus website. "Pegasus is known for supplying standards-based imaging technology in a robust, thoroughly-tested and supported package," says Russ Puskaric, Pegasus' Director of Sales, quickly adding, "serious developers, involved in critical applications want commercial-level support, and that is the underpinning of Pegasus' reputation and large OEM customer base. We help build solutions." |
