The International English Language Testing System (IELTS)

The International English Language Testing System (IELTS) is a product of The University of Cambridge Local Examinations Syndicate (UCLES) EFL, The British Council and IDP Education Australia. UCLES EFL provides the most comprehensive range of English language tests available worldwide. IELTS is recognised by universities and colleges worldwide as a reliable measure of English language competence. It is also used for recognition purposes by professional bodies and government departments in the UK, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Ireland and the USA. The annual candidature for IELTS in 2001 was 213,000.

EFLCOMMS is the bespoke software used to administer the test, the software functionality incorporating the collection of entries, the apportionment of examinees to examiners, and the production of the Test Report Form. The Pegasus TwainPro 3.0 software is being used to collect the candidates' image from a scanned passport photograph which is subsequently displayed and printed on the IELTS Test Report Form.

After searching the Internet for TWAIN components for Delphi, and trying out several of the free components (unsuccessfully), we found a reference to TwainPro and downloaded the trial version. Compared with the other components available, developing with TwainPro was straightforward and problem-free.
